Sports Funding The government has provided an additional funding of 150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding is provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. Our school has been awarded additional funding of 9570 on improving the provision of PE and sport, but we have the freedom to choose how we do this. So far we have used the funding to: hire qualified sports coaches to work with children at lunchtimes 2 days a week. pay for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport. provide cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE and sport run intra and inter school sport competitions, and to increase pupils participation in the School Games. provide places for pupils on after school sports clubs. provide a qualified sports coach for holiday club. provide swimming lessons at Fore Street and Clifford Road. fund two Healthy Eating weeks for children and provide cooking workshops for parents.
