What is RAFTS?

I'm sure you're wondering, “What is RAFTS?".  It is Ravenswood's very own PTA. This organisation supports the school by raising money to enhance, enrich and improve learning experiences for all pupils.

RAFTS aim to build close ties with the school community, helping to connect school and home life, so that parents become positively engaged in their children's education. There is also a social aspect to the PTA; parents and carers are able to get together, meet parents and carers of children from different year groups and work alongside each other, while raising money for the school. Research has shown that parental involvement has a significant positive impact on a child's achievements and attainment at school.

All parents and carers are automatically members of RAFTS, but we also invite friends and relatives to apply to be members.

What can I expect if I volunteer?

Typically, PTAs organise and run fundraising events. Therefore, the most supportive role you can play is to offer your time.

Can you bake a cake? Do you have organisational skills you can offer? Would you be able to man a stall at one of our enrichment events? Could you sell raffle tickets? If the answer is yes to any of these then we would love you to get in touch.

If you would like to join the PTA but don't want to get involved in our events, there are so many other roles you can take, such as our pre-loved school uniform coordinator or designing flyers or mail shots as a graphic designer? Perhaps you work for a company that will be able to donate raffle prizes, discounts on refreshments or access to a local facility?

If you have an idea of what you'd like to do, or skills you can offer, make a suggestion!

RAFTS will be run using open, transparent and clear communication coupled with invaluable ideas, opinions and feedback from students, teachers, parents and friends - we hope to enrich our school community as much as possible. We treasure each of our respected roles and monitor our responsibilities frequently, taking onboard the seriousness of the service we provide. Making even a small difference or change in a positive manner is exactly what we dream of and the reason we dedicate ourselves so fiercely to this organisation.

A successful PTA provides everyone with the opportunity to exchange views, work together and to develop mutual trust and confidence. In a world where everyone's time is precious, joining a PTA can seem a daunting task but everyone can get involved, even if they only have a small amount of time available. The more people who volunteer the more the workload can be shared.

We are a hardworking, ever evolving, ever learning team. We are always looking for help and support and openly encourage anyone who feels they can help us to reach our goals, to get in touch.
